Don't Resist Resistance Training!
By: Nutrition Section
Achieving the body you have always wanted can be created by doing resistance training. This type of training involves weights, machines, and body weight to build up and work out the muscles. Sometimes it is called strength training or weight training and doing this type of exercise is very effective in developing your body and creating a healthier look and feel.
Many athletes use this type of training to build their muscles and be fit and lean for their chosen sport. Resistance training will not create a larger body, you will not increase in size as much as strength. Anyone can do this type of training and even if you do not have a home gym or gym membership, you can still do this from home.
To begin resistance training you can use various equipment and machines to start. There is the bench press, dumbbells, and barbells for example and these are used against the body and then in turn working the muscles. As the body adapts to the extra weight, pounds will be shed and additional weight will need to be added. As it becomes easy to left or use those weights, you then know that you have built a tolerance and need to go up to the next level. Also, equipment does not always need to be used. Doing pushups can create the same results, the weight of your body now becomes the weight used to strength you.
For each person the benefits of resistance training will vary, however there are some that are basic to everyone. They are:
-
it will increase your bone mineral density leading to less bone and joint problems as you get older. Increasing physical activity increases hormones, which leads to an increase in bone density.
-
you will increase your strength and stamina.
-
many activities you could not do before you will now be able to participate in and enjoy. Especially when it comes to strenuous sports.
-
you will have reduced your body far, overall making you healthier and decreases your chances of certain diseases.
-
our heart gets a work out and that is a good thing. Resistance training will increase your heart strength and again decreasing your chances of some type of heart disease and illness.
Always check with a doctor before starting a regimented training program just to make sure there are no problems or concerns you should know about. Hurting yourself is not the end goal of resistance training and this could result if you are not careful or have other preexisting conditions. Doing resistance training is great for your body both physically and mentally and getting started as soon as possible is wonderful. Just make sure you get checked out so you can get the most benefit from all the hard work you will be putting in.
